About

Walt at the workshop

Walt Hollis. 68. I was a machinist most of my life. When I retired, my hands got bored, so I took up clay.

The first burner was for my granddaughter, June. She couldn't sleep — too many thoughts. I made her a little mountain so the smoke would have somewhere to go, and she'd have something to watch besides the ceiling. People saw it and started asking for them.

Now I make a few each week, when the kiln allows. The Quiet Kiln is the shelf where they end up.

I make quiet things out of clay. That's the whole story.
